The parabolic shape of the deep Profoto umbrellas gives better light-shaping control by limiting the light spread and concentrating the beam for a more directional light. It also allows you to focus and shape light by simply sliding the umbrella shaft backward or forward in its holder.

As the head is bounced rather than direct with the added diffuser you get a very soft wrap-around light source.
